Name: Zack Fair, Ex-SOLDIER 1st Class
Canon: FF VII player-created AU
Canon Point: Post Advent Children during the Holy rain.
Permissions: It's all good.
Age: 26
History: He's his own living legacy.
AU History: Zack Fair was an unsung hero of the Wutai war, slayer of Jenova-infected beings, and one-time science experiment for Professor Hojo. Everyone knows that story. The time stream changed with the death of Cloud Strife. Rather than the science department arriving in the reactor in time to save him, Zack regained consciousness long enough to hold his friend as his life slipped away, then was carted away to spend the next four years in a mako tube.
Upon achieving freedom, Zack mourned, then set out to continue his journey. Being able to move more freely than his canon counterpart with no extra baggage weighing him down, he defeated Genesis and Minerva before heading for Midgar. He was met with the same opposition, nearly a hundred ShinRa troopers standing between him and his destination. However, without a specific position he needed to hold to keep someone safe, Zack was free to let loose and move as he needed to. In the end, he was severely beaten, bloodied, and bullet-ridden. Thankfully he was retrieved by the Turks before he could pass away and given the medical attention he required (though rumor has it he jingles when he runs because of a few missed bullets inside him.)
Once sufficiently recovered, Zack decided he needed vengeance for his fallen friends. While Hojo managed to flee ShinRa in time to avoid being slaughtered by the enraged ex-SOLDIER, Zack did have access to his files. He spent the next several months tracking down every one of the mad scientists' hidden laboratories in an effort to free any other experiments like himself he may find. It was in one of these labs that Zack made the discovery of a child with silver hair in a mako tank. Discovering the boy was a clone of Sephiroth that Hojo was growing, Zack determined he was going to keep the kid and named him Riku, taking him far away from the labs and the corrupting influence of Hojo. Teaching the kid to act human was a challenge, but through their adventures Zack was more than happy to take on a father role for Riku.
Things went south when president ShinRa was killed by who appeared to be Sephiroth. Knowing there was no one else on the planet with the ability to take the man down, Zack took off after him with Riku in tow, and along the way they joined up with the new incarnation of AVALANCHE. After a prolonged chase, the loss of Aerith, and almost losing Riku to Sephiroth, and the fall of Meteor, the group finally managed to defeat Sephiroth and Jenova in the Norther Crater once and for all.
Or so they thought.
Zack and Riku continued travelling across the planet, searching for any other labs and helping people recover from the traumatic events wherever they could. That is, until Geostigma started to harm those around them. Zack and Riku were immune, having SOLDIER enhancements and Riku having Jenova cells deeply rooted in his body from his creation. They returned to Edge in time for the showdown with the Remnants, and together took them down. It was sometime during the aftermath, during the rain, that both Riku and Zack disappeared from their world mysteriously.
Personality: If there was ever a word that described Zack succinctly, it would be determined. Nothing on the planet can keep the man down when he has his mind set on something, and he'll tear down entire armies to get where he wants or needs to go. He's fiercely loyal to his friends, even to the point of denying evidence that's right in front of his face if it goes against what he believes about them. He will do everything in his power to help those he cares about, but the universe has a way of reminding him how powerless he is.
The loss of Angeal and Cloud and the betrayal of Sephiroth weighed hard on Zack, and he had started to lose some of his jovial attitude before he came across Riku. The sheltered boy reminded him of the importance of attachments, human connections, and a good sense of humor. He learned to embody the traits he wanted to pass along to his adopted son, and so he picked back up his determined, friendly, honorable demeanor. He almost broke again when Aerith died, and after that moment the smile he forced never did reach his eyes again.
